The University of Ghana Medical Centre Ltd (UGMC) has successfully completed its first series of six kidney transplant surgeries. Kidney transplant surgery involves transferring a healthy kidney from a donor to a recipient whose kidneys are functioning poorly. This procedure is commonly performed to treat kidney failure.
According to a statement released in Accra and sent to the Ghana News Agency, the six surgeries were carried out with the highest level of precision, attention, and skill. Dr. Emmanuel Asante, the Head of the Urology Department at UGMC, stated that the procedures were executed seamlessly, demonstrating the Center’s proficiency in intricate surgical procedures and post-operative management.
During an interview, Dr. Kwame Anim-Boamah, the Chief Executive Officer of UGMC, expressed that the accomplishment of the initial six kidney transplants serves as evidence of the Center’s dedication to breaking barriers, attaining excellence in healthcare, and enhancing the well-being of patients through advanced interventions and compassionate treatment.
